My wife has a Defibrillator implanted in her chest. She has had it for about 13 years. She had a new one fitted after 7 years. The battery last for about 7 years. She goes to the specialist every 6 months and he puts some electrodes on her which tell him how much charge is left in the battery. She only had one bit of trouble and that was passing through a security screen at an airport which put the defib out of whack, now she has a card to show and the airport security use a handheld device which is lower powered. She doesn't have any discomfort with it, and she says not to worry.
Good Luck

Shazz
Hope you don't mind me asking you what kind of symptoms you get?
My hubby is having tests at the moment for an irregular heartbeat, but at the moment, they haven't decided what the exact problem is.

Hi Shazzlou, It's now 12 minutes past midnight here in Melbourne, I will ask my wife about how long the procedure took and come back to this site tomorrow evening (Oz time). Of course it has messed up me claiming her Life Insurance as that damn Pacemaker will keep her heart going forever. LOL

As it has gone midnight, I actually mean that I will come back this evening.

Hi Shazzlou, Sorry but I couldn't get back to you as I said but hopefully you are now OK and surprised just how easy the whole operation was. Once again, my apologies Shazzlou. You will now be able to move like the 6 million dollar man.
Take Care
