Hot matches

Am I the only person that now finds discarding irrelevant "hot matches" to be so tedious and unhelpful compared with the way it was. After each discard, and that is most of hot matches the screen returns to page 1 which contains old matches which I have kept. Please Genes R go back to earlier system where wrong matches were easy to delete

Brian....have you filled in the survey GR are asking people to complete?? Right at the end end especially there is a section where you can say things that you don't like etc...also l think someof the 1 - 10 scoring questions has something relevant too.

The "Old" system didn't work either, so no point in going back to that.

What should happen is that you go back to the same point in the list that you came from the last select.

No Brian you are not alone.
It is becoming quite boring, the number of, new improved changes we are getting, which never are improvements.
But as Ann says, fill in the survey.
It may help????

I am scared of the matches now saying "delete all matches with..." insetad of just delete.

Does this mean, if I am keeping a hot matches entry for a member and I get a second match entry for them that I want to delete, will the first entry vanish too?

But that means I have to go through the entire list, listing all the names, which takes a lot of time, so that before daring to delete anything I have checked that it won't make another entry vanish too that I want to keep !!!

If this is the case, silly silly silly.

InspectorGreenPen Report 3 Aug 2010 16:40

When you delete, it removes all matches for that member and prevents further ones from appearing in the future.

It is not possible, nor ever has been, to delete selective entries for a specific member.

The current Hotmatch issue is a bug, not a change. GR have a comment on the Help Pages.

When it comes to real changes, it is interesting how people want to revert to the previous change that they complained about so bitterly when it was introduced last time around.....!

Nor has it ever been - yes it has, I used to do it. In the odl system, there were occasions when I had 2 totally separate entries in the match list, originating on different dates, that were both from the same member, and I deleted one and did not lose the other.

Yes Maurice, I've done that as well, on several occasions.

I think it would help matters a bit if GR stopped sending out hot matches for 'UNKOWN' and 'MOTHER and 'MRS'. Surely it is not beyond possibility to only send out matches if ALL criteria are matched,

This site gets worse and worse. Do you think they get paid for how long you are on here?
The old Hot Match system whereby you could go down the list and put a tick in the box to have it deleted was much better. Now I am even being asked if I am sure I want it deleted!!

And why were my last two sets of Hot Matches all for one name?? Adams!! And of course they had nothing to do with me. Oh, this time I did have two or three for Mary Allen, again not even born in the right area of the country.

Surely there must be someone out there who could set up a site which would be run as this was when it was first formed, i.e. someone with an interest in genealogy and not just in making money!

Elizabeth2469049 Report 23 Aug 2010 16:00

In my last batch there was an improvement, as now if you click delete you have the option of keeping in reserve - as I certainly don't always want to lose all contact with a name even if the specific one shown doesn't fit my records.

I was initially very pleased at being able to click on "New" and get them all together - but the irritation of having to repeat this after every name is very tedious - it is more straightforward to go through the whole list as I used to.

InspectorGreenPen

InspectorGreenPen Report 23 Aug 2010 16:49

The reason you are being asked if you wish to delete is that a number of members had asked for the option to back out, if they realised at the last minute they did not wish to delete. GR made the change as a result of members asking them to.

On the question of multiple entries for one member, I haven't seen this in several years using the site. All matches for a particular member have appeared under the same member heading and the number added to as new matches were clocked.

The point of Hotmatches surely is help you make contact with another member who has the same interests as you. Once you have done this then the no of individual names they have becomes irrelevant - indeed as far as I am concerned I am no longer interested in further matches with that member as I am already in contact and am quite capable of checking for myself.

B, this is how it works. Adams was one of your names that they system selected for the last run. It then attempted to find matches with other trees, so it is to be expected that you get several, as the name is fairly common. Also, as has been documented on here dozens of times before. HotMatches does not look at the place of birth, only name and year of birth.

Dave, The reason it matches Unknown , Mrs, Other etc is that you have entered these as names in your tree . It has done what it says on the tin.
