My OH thought it was on Farming Today, but i have just listened to it on I player, and no mention. He heard something about what amounts to a proposal to keep cows in a battery farming way, to produce more and cheaper milk. Did anyone else hear this/ I am horrified at the idea.

I did not hear it either, but NOTHING surprises me anymore.
We .. the human race... have 'lost it'.
The problems we are building up for ourselves is frightening.

I really should not say WE, as in the main... WE have no say in the matter do we?

Yes-it was on the farming programme

Application for planning permission from a Dairy Company to establish a large dairy herd of cattle-about 8000 -to be kept completely indoors-I think in Leicestershire somewhere

There are a number of such herds in the USA apparently

They are fed high protein diets etc-no narural grazing

Thanks, Elizabeth, I shall e-mail my MP and ask him to do something about it. I think it is a disgraceful idea. Cows do not narurally make for the indoors like hens.

The very same thing was intended to be introduced by some outfit down in the South Island of New Zealand recently, but due to public outcry the Government took over the consent application from the Regional Council that was going to process it and consent was turned down.
