I need to change the default blank paper to one with a larger font, but just can't see how to make the modified paper the default when you open a new blank document.

It must be there somewhere !

Simples,

After making the formatting and font changes you require, do a Save As but instead of saving as a document, select the file type of template i.e. a .dot file

You could overwrite the Normal.dot template which is the default but I would create a new one so as not to loose the original default.

To use your new template, open word then File, New and select the template you want.

I use this for creating letter headings and other documents I use on a regular basis.

I've created the new one, all I need to do now is to point the "New Blank Document" icon to that one instead of the original.

That's the bit I can't work out.

"New Blank Document" will open the default Normal.dot template. You could over write the original with your version or select it using the method I described above i.e. selecting New from the file Menu, which allows you to choose the template you want to use.

Here are some useful tips about Normal.dot

The answer then seems to be to rename "Normal.dot" to "Normal Old.dot" and rename the new one to "Normal.dot".
