Irish Bapt and Birth.

When researching the Irish don't be surprised if your relatives can't be found as what they were know by often is not the registered name. Apart from taking important names from forfathers their first name was taken from the Saint celebrated on that day. For instance I have my father Bapt. John Francis and always known as Frank. His brother was John Michael and always known as Sean. A sister Ann Mary but known as Mary. This was common practice and forfathers names can appear several times within one family. |
