I would n't spend any money here and thats for sure. Ancestry and all the free sites such as familysearch, genogold, freeBMD, freecen, freereg, BMDshare, rootsweb etc are adequate. Its always worth googling ancestors too, in the past I've found some super old photos on photobucket.

www.familysearch.org (IGI) for baps, marriages and burials, but check they are EXTRACTED from PR, rather than submitted.

fsbeta.familysearch.org - Parish records, some images

Freereg - transcribed PR

All 3 free to search and view.

Various PR sites around the country - you'd need to google.

Ancestry, which is the one you already subsribe to, is probably the best. You can search for free on Findmypast, and can either ask for looks ups or pay to view.

www.bmdregisters.co.uk - Non conformists records up to 1837 + other records. Free to search, but pay to view. They do have a subscription membership, but it does depend how many of your Ancestors were non cons to get the value for money.

well as you have Ancestry you can find all you need on there re BMD.s census etc, but ,excluding the 1911 census which is available on Find my Past
I always buy my certs from the GRO direct at .
www.gro.gov.uk certs now cost £9.25 each.
some local records offices will also supply at £9 I think, but not all will do so .I prefer to stick with the GRO as you will have their ref to make the order

Meant to add what is the most cost effective way to purchase certificates too!

Thanks again

I know that there are various posts regarding what to do where and when, but I'm looking for personal opinions regarding vfm for sites. I am a basic member of this site and a worldwide member of ancestry;
I have restarted my tree due to my niavity in the early days, so I am verifying everybit of info; what sites offer me value searches on 1911 and other bmd's?

Many thanks
Jo
