Hi Emma. There are several things that might help, some parish records are online, like the baptisms, marriages and deaths for London on Ancestry . Also FamilySearch can be very useful, Also the census of course.

Where are you stuck? If we know we might be able to direct you...but sometimes it does come down to buying a cert to be absolutely sure , especially if it is a common name.

No sence at all ...but we know what you mean

Some people have great success finding family without Birth marriage and death certificates ...I have had some

Try useing sites like Ancestry.com and findmypast BUt these do need paying for
Now do remember that before 1837ish people didnt have any certificates ...so you need to use igis and I am HOPELESS at them!!!

sometimes if you put peoples names on RECORDS other people will help you hunt for info

Hi everyone, am new to this and have managed some success tracing back. Was wondering is there any other way to trace back from a great grandparent to their parents without having to view a birth/death certificate?I have gone back on my mums side but no one alive has much information and i didnt realise that the bmd only hold a record of the event and not the means to trace back from it.Hope that makes sense and hope someone is able to help me
Many Thanks
Emma
