How long do you wait before you delete or don't you?

Why delete? It isn't taking up room on your PC so I leave mine, not that I have many unopened, if any.

Hi Ann in glos. I haven't deleted any of mine
but wondered if anyone did after a certain
amount of time. Hot matches were what I
was meaning.

I leave mine in case somebody suddenly remembers that they have got a tree on here. Sometimes the envelopes will remain unopened if people forget to change their e mail address.

Thanks Ann thats what I'm hoping for too just
maybe, they will get opened.

Good question, Golden Girl!

Glad you have asked, as I've left my un-opened mail as such, Not sure about correct protocol!

As Ann has pointed out, unopened mail isn't taking up any space on your own PC!

As a hoarder by nature, I was thinking that someone might get back to me, at some point!

I like to open and reply to any messages as soon as I can. Unless I'm 'away' or something, I try to reply within a week at most.

As for 'Hot matches'. What a load of rubbish they usually turn out to be! I never even bother to look at them these days.

I would love to have the opportunity to send messages - each time I tried yesterday and today, this happened:

This error (HTTP 500 Internal Server Error) means that the website you are visiting had a server problem which prevented the webpage from displaying.

My gripe, is about the opposite. I contact someone through search trees, and ask about someone in their tree. The contact opens the message, and doesn't even bother to answer.
Don't really know what the answer to it is, but live in hope.

GoldenGirl - your reference to Hot Matches. I see one welcome reform in my latest batch - when you click delete, you are now given the option to retain the possible contact

Morning all, Julia I have the same problem,
but I did get an answer from someone last
week who had opened up a couple of months
ago, so never say never.

Even if you do open them all up, and then go back to check you haven't missed any, you will find that for some reason, some of them have been marked as unread again. It is sooooooooo annoying because I have read one particular hot match 11 times this week and that is only while I have been counting.
How come you have to open each one before deleting....sooooo annoying.
They have got to get this sorted out coz it's sooooo annoying.

As equally frustrating to me, is the following two examples:-
A couple of weeks ago I PM'd someone, and very kindly, using by best manners, asked if a person in their tree had married ?????. Received a PM on Saturday, just saying 'Yes she did'. What kind of an answer is that. I have PM'd again, asking for some details, at least. And, it has not been opened.
Also, in June last year, I posted a thread on TTF, which went it's distance, but no satisfactory conclusion. I had forfotten all about it. Low and behold, when looking through the TTF board on Saturday morning, someone had bought it back onto the front page, saying she was related through marriage. No more details!!!!. Again I PM'd, and put an answer on the thread, asking for them to make contact. And again, contact has not been made through either source.
I know there can be good reasons for either of them not getting back to me, but surely it is common sense that if you have made contact with someone, that they are going to come back to you, if only to say thank you
I despair, I really do.

I wish there was a way we could have people removed from Genes if they fail to rreply within, say, three months! I have made repeated applications to some people who just ignore me. If it isn't your person it doesn't take a moment to say so. It's just bad manners not to reply. Let's try to get these people thrown out!!!
