I've just heard that a good friend lost her battle against breast cancer this evening. She was 45 years old and has a son aged 12. She has fought for so long against all odds, defying all the times when doctors said that she was facing the end. She's been given "hours, at most, days", put on "3 day end of life plans" and ended up sitting up in her hospital bed saying "what's all the fuss about?"
She spent the last two weeks in a hospice where they couldn't control the pain.
Part of me says to be glad that she's not suffering anymore but a bigger part of me says that it is so unfair that this young famliy has lost their wife and mother and so many of us have lost avery good friend.
It hurts

I am so sorry for your loss.
Yes it really is unfair when someone so young dies .
remember your friend as she was before her illness.

I am so sorry to hear about your friend. So sad to lose a friend so young. Sending my thoughts to her family especially her young son. She tried hard to stay by the sounds of it, but I am sure nobody would wish her back to the pain she was suffering. you are right, it is not fair.

Allison really was the most beautiful young woman who fought so valiantly for so many years.Unfortunately her breast cancer spread so far, even after a double mastectomy so that she had tumours in her brain, lungs, everywhere possible. She received so much love and support from so many friends and family and at the very end from the Butterwick Hospice. I really cannot praise this hospice enough for all they have done for Allison and her family. If any of you have the chance to support your local hospices then please please do so

It is always hard to lose a good ffriend and even more tragic one so young with a young family. Thoughts and prayers to her family and friends.

I am sure that she will be remembered with pride by her family and friends.
I have a copy of this poem for several relatives and friends who sadly are no longer here for me to talk to. So sometimes when I think about them I read this piece again.
I hope you find some comfort in reading it.

Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes we enjoyed together.

Let my name be ever the household word that it always was.
Let it be spoken without effect, without the ghost of a shadow on it.

Life means all that it ever meant.
It is the same as it ever was.
There is absolutely unbroken continuity.
What is this death but a negligible accident.

I am but waiting for you for an interval
Somewhere very near
Just around the corner.
All is well.
