House work

Why is it if someone, other than myself, does a couple of jobs around the house like hoovering or washing the dishes they feel like they have to make some great announcement to me "I've done they hoovering for you" or " I've done the dishes for you" ?

Where is it written that I have to do it anyway? I would rather they announced "I've picked my smelly socks and dirty underwear up off the bedroom floor and put them in the washing basket" - not that, that is my job either. lol.

Rant over. Just feeling a bit brassed off.

To be truthful it is mainly my 16 year old daughter. She has left school and is waiting to start college. I left for work this morning, leaving my dirty coffee mug and toast plate in the sink.

She rang me during my lunch break "I've done the dishes for you. By the way is it ok for a couple of friends to call round?" To be honest I was in shock that she was even out of bed, after all it was only 1pm. lol. OK says I.

Arrive home, the living room and kitchen are like a couple of bomb sites. How do 3 young women use 8 glasses and six mugs?? DVD's and crisp packets all over the show. To cap it all I had left the washing out on the line, it had chucked it down at about 3pm and it was still there.

She is a lovely person, we get on very well and I am very proud of her but sometimes I could quite cheerfully strangle her!!

I have 2 sons, now both in their twenties and thought they were bad when they were teens but my daughter is worse than the two boys put together. The only good thing is, is that I no longer have walls with holes punched in them or doors off their hinges. By the time the boys were 15 & 16 they were far too big for me to bang their heads together when they were going for each other. They have turned out fine, don't think twice about sharing house hold jobs so I feel there is hope for her yet - just getting a bit fed up waiting. lol

I refused to enter my daughter's bedrooms once they turned 12!!
The laundry basket was on the landing - if it wasn't in there - it didn't get washed!
The vacuum cleaner was downstairs - if I could carry it upstairs - so could they!
Clean sheets were in the airing cupboard etc...
The only drawback was, eldest decided if she had to 'muck out' her room - she could decorate it. One dark purple room later.....
Oh - and both removed their carpets. One because one of the cats decided their carpet was a good place to wee (I wonder why?), the other because she decided the broom wasn't as heavy as the vacuum cleaner!

However, when they slowly moved out - both left and came back again, I painted their rooms white!! Took a few coats - but all those years of not having to wade through unsavoury debris was worth it!!
One room is now carpeted - the other has a laminate floor - and they're both full of my junk! LOL

Oh well
Re hung the washing out at 8am - sun was cracking the flags.

I am now like a drowned rat and the clothes are wetter than when I hung them out this morning - sun was still cracking the flags and pouring down at the same time.

I give up - have put the tumble dryer on!!

Have read your replys - it's good to know I am not alone. lol
