Without a tele

We never had a TV until quite late when I was a child, and never had one when our children were small.
I live alone and have one, but never watch daytime TV when I'm ot at work, and spend a lot of the evening listening to the radio (whilst playing games on the computer!)
However, if I suddenly didn't have a TV, it wouldn't bother me - I'd just get on with the things I've stopped doing - sewing, knitting, etc - and maybe write a book!

I enjoy my TV and would not miss COAST with the georgeous Neil Oliver!

Love WDYTYA but never watch the soaps, my dad is 80 and he loves Coronarion Street as did my mum.

I think the computer to some is far more entertaining than the TV, and for some people preferable, hence the amount of time some people spend on here lol!

Love my books also.........Uzzi have you read The Help (Kathryn Stockett)

Eddie of course I saw I saw Going Postal anything on TV gets recorded for me but I find on the wire 1st.

yes it was a tad bad but not as as bad as some of the others. Come on Hog father was an embarrassment.

Any way Terry is another thread if you wish to start it .

I think Soul music is one of the best, probably my favourite. No, one of my favourites.
I have to say Nation left me a little puzzled. I realise i was for "younger" readers, but so were Wintersmith and others and they were up to the expected standard. Did you see the Sky production of Going Postal? Was n't it awful!

Jane I don't think a person who has a TV or even needs a TV is sad.

I am the unusual here....I am just wondering what I have to look forward to by having a tele.

I will say I find it strange that if peoples tele caput they find that they no longer have anything to talk about. ...That's sad when it's freinds even sadder when you are married to them.

Jean like you I live on books ..tee hee have just got a new (to me ) Pratchet book, Sorry but I do ove my books and I guess I can talk plots of gemmell like others do about Corrie difference is I don't.

Me and OH when together play games if we don't read alone, We do play internet games like safecracker. etc Sad maybe but we do talk whilst we are tying to work the puzzles out . We do have the Pratchett internet game discworld noir (untouched because our lappy's weren't capable of supporting it it ) and ex-files now too old for our PC's ....

As long as I had a regular supply of books, and my computer, I would be fine, but OH would have nothing to send him to sleep in the evenings! We watch mostly old re-runs of programmes from the first colour tele days. Todays programmes have little appeal.

That reminds me of a pub I used to run in London, I had 2 sky cards and the pub bar wanted football on aswell as the saloon ..so I allowed them on the condition they allowed me to watch the world bowls competion .....they agreed ..

I went in the other bar and watched MTV ....
but an agreement is an agreement

Eddie I sort of agree with you that soaps aren't my cup of tea at all, but I really wouldn't class those who do watch as brainless. same way as I wouldn't class everybody ever caought on camera in jogging bottoms a chave (it took me 2 yrs to understand what a chav was! )
I think my fascinatation is what would they talk about without soaps, or a tele.

I'm actualy looking forward to being able to watch WDYTYA and take part in conversations. and I have to own up I would have watched a few episodes of benidorm (or was it barcelona) for fun. But I would hope that I never think what is on TV is more important than what is going on around me.

PS how do I get a sky card lol

I enjoy the nature and history prograames. Coast is a favourite. Only soap I watch is Coronation Street and that is a defence against the golf/motor race/motor bike/horse racing!

Look at the saturday night listings and you'll decide not to bother getting a tV. It is absolute drivel all evening, pointless brainless drivel.
And during the week its all soap operas for saddos that have n't got a real life. Do people really watch stuff like Eastenders and Coronation street? Why? Just tell me, why? I truly do not understand. It is just c**p, nothing more, nothing less, just c**p for "Sun" readers.
Anything worth watching I catch on iplayer.

well my 1st question is could you cope without one. ?

I by choice haven't had a tele in 6 years. also in the prevous 5 yrs before that I had a tele that I never watched.

I often find it fascinating listening to conversations (not on here but in real life) about what's going on in what soap. ..These couples are out together for a night out and they talk about soaps on the TV? Not only do they talk amongst themselves but other expats join in ....
Now I am at a loss ..they look bemused when I say sorry I don't have a tele (even been offered one FOC..thanks but sold mine cos I never took it out of the box in 4 yrs and sold 4 sat dishes)
So I ask what they think about the latest helicopter scoop over Calblanque (our mountain range on to the med) and they look blank again. .... Errr there was that big drug lift ovet there ...sorry they say we was watching ******
They live here and know more about whats going on in soaps than they do their own area .
baffles me.
I'm actually looking forward to having a tele if I can work out how to pay for the card, but not at that cost.
