I could not believe my eyes, when out shopping yesterday. I saw for sale, Winter Pansies, Violas, Heathers, Cyclamen and Primulas. Lordy,lordy, we are still in August, and have a bank holiday to go yet. These plants will not last beyond Christmas, let alone till next spring. Indeed, I have not set my Winter seeds yet. In another shop I saw winter bulbs for sale, and it looked. by the display, that people had been buying them already.
The gardening 'seasons' are going all to cock. It is not the growing of plants to get an early, start, but the market forces. In spring we have plantlets for the hanging baskets in the garden centres by mid February, and yes, you have to buy them as they are soon gone. This does not make your baskets last longer, indeed, they are 'going over' by early/mid August, where they should last at least another month.
This is getting totally out of hand.
