The money probably went to the government!!! as I think the will went to probate because he made his will out to his wife who he then seperated from, had a secret love child (my 2nd great grandfather) with a woman half his age and then his wife died, and maybe he never changed his will and that's why it went to probate. I don't think he had contact with my 2nd great grandfather or he would of perhaps inherited the money. I did send for a copy of the will to the will service department but never heard back from them. Still I can dream of the inheritance that never was to be!!!!!

I just cannot image holding that amount of money....WOW.

I have found an ancestor of mine who's will went to probate in 1887, he left the sum of £3,291 and 18 shillings. Does anyone have any idea how much that would be worth in today's terms, it seems quite alot of money to me!!!!
