Strange thing about fibre optics..........(unless I have my info wrong...) when they built the new estate at Hampton Hargate, Bt installed fibreoptic cabling, (super for telephones,)which resulted in snail speed broad band.....so they "HAD" to re wire with copper cabling.............how come companies such as Sky can get high speed broad band with fibre optics? |

bob we only get between 2/3 mb where we live. scottish hydro electric promise speeds of 20mb. when i asked them if we would get that here, they said after doing a line check, sorry you are to rural and far away from the exchange. if you lived ina town or city/less isolated you would get better. |

I think BT will have some difficulty giving the speed they are stating, as they still use copper wires for their telephone lines, not fibre optics. |

Ours, with BT is currently 5.35Mb/s. We use speedtest.net. We've been told of an increase, in price but are just grinning and bearing it as we have had good service when things go wrong. |

What you could do is go to a few broadband providers and they have test for your line to see what you get. |
