How to copy

Please do excuse me, but I'm all new to this.

I've only just started my family tree, and have a hot match with someone who I've contacted and asked to view their tree, and it appears we're related (a long, long way back).

They've got something like 3000 contacts on their tree, and whilst I've only got a couple of dozen or so, I'd love to be able to add my ones to theirs (they haven't got the ones that I have!).

How do I...

1. Give them the ones that I've got.
2. How do I copy their family tree and add it into what I've got.

Any help would be much appreciated.

1..if they can see your tree then they can copy it too
2...to be honest i wouldn't just copy someones tree, i'd like to 1st confirm that what they have is correct & also by just coping someone else info would take the fun out of finding them myself

So how would I copy a number of entries?

Do I have to copy them one at a time, or can I do a whole bunch at once?

Hi Graham, take my advice and i am sure most people will agree. Never add anything from another persons tree, untill you have checked it out for yourself. It can so easily take you down the wrong root, if the information they have is incorrect..
And not only that, it really does take the fun out of it, if just copy info from someone elses tree.
Good luck......... Susan

Personally I'd only copy info that directly linked to your family. There really is no point on copying people that have no blood connection (apart from husbands and wives or your relatives).

Sorry I haven't copied details from other trees by copying & pasting so can't advise you. Good luck :)

Nudge - Graham may want to copy the tree so he can do follow up checks!!
I personally write them down!

Agreeing -- it would be nice to *have a copy* of someone's tree like that. For ref.

If there's an answer I'd like to know. ;) I have a couple of rellies on here who have humongous trees I'd like to have copies of. Navigating around them GR-style drives me insane.

Personally where my family tree girls have married out of tree then the only details I take are those of their children and g.children otherwise I feel I would lose the 'real' tree.

Likewise girls who have married in - I just take their parents details and note how many siblings they have.
