Hi Naomi
Do you have membership for Ancestry? As they have many if not most of the records for WW1on there. If not The National Archives have some for I think a fee.
If you give me as many details as you have I could look for you and send you an e-mail if you send it to me in a pm.

BMD ONLY ever use the official General Register Office site. Others charge more and order from them anyway !!!

http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/

If you have the ref no which you can find on FreeBMD or Ancestry if you are pretty sure of the details, it is cheaper than having them search Just follow the info given. I think a cert is about £9 with you giving ref no.

Ask if you need anymor help.

Linda :o)

So it looks like James was Father to Arthur and Thomas and he must have died between 1865 and 1871

Naomi, I have had a couple of longstanding mysteries in my tree.
The first was my Granny, who I always thought had lived in Scotland all her life....
I found her in DURHAM.
I found myself (not difficult as I know where I am... ha ha ) in the records on , what used to be, the 1837 site, now known as findmypast , I believe.
Mine was easy as I was born abroad so already knew that, but exciting to see it in black and white on the records.

I have just this week found the death of my G.G.G. Granddad, after searching for YEARS. I took a different 'road' and found her in *OLD PAROCHIAL REGISTER* records.

It really is a jig saw puzzle Naomi, isn't it?

Do you have ANCESTRY ?
It does give a wide area to search.
It is expensive, but once paid for it is open to you for a whole year.

Good luck with it.
Just keep searching.
