Can sombody please give me some help and advice as I am not very computer savvy. I can only do very basic things on my computer. I have Windows 7 and am thinking of buying Family Tree Maker 2010 version. Will I encounter any specific difficulties and can I have some general advice on how to install and use the programme?

Many thanks. Susan

Hi Susan
I bought a new laptop last week with Windows 7 and installed FTM 2010 and so far have had no problems.

Thanks for that gemqueen. Are the instructions on how to use FTM when installed easy to understand?

be aware that sometimes a package is not what it appears to be,
for example when I bought FTM version 6 years ago, it came in a big box with loads of cd's for around 40 quid.....the only things useful to me, in the uk was the basic program disc and the handbook..........most of the other cd's were USA based and of no use to ME whatsoever, ( apart from the practice of course in getting used to the idea)
you might do better by getting a bargain from
TVR computing..

Thanks to all those who have replied in answer to my query. I was thinking of buying FTM using my tesco vouchers so no actual outlay for me. What I am wanting is a programme to store my family tree on. My only record of all my hard work over 3-4 years is here on GR. I feel somewhat vunerable as to it's safety being only on GR. So folks what do I do?.

Down load it from here onto your computer, and then to be extra sure (my PC has turned up its toes...sob, sob) copy it onto an external hard drive, even if its only a plug in flash-drive. As it is a GEDCOM file, you *will* need some sort of Family tree programme installed to be open it.

Frank and Bob

Many thanks for replying. Have taken on board what you have said. Sorry not to have replied sooner but things got hectic here after I posted my request and this is the first chance I've had to come back here.

Best Wishes. Sue
