Hi SRS you would get a big surprise because they
have expanded their premises. Have you been into their website recently?

Thank you all for replying, sorry for not replying individually.

Hello Golden Girl, I was a member of ANESFHS too a few years ago and let my membership lapse (not on purpose). I've been thinking about joining again. I used to love their magazines. Haven't been to Aberdeen for a while but I love their "shop"

I used to belong to Gloucester but now just belong to Somerset and Dorset and Hampshire. Both have a good quarterly magazine with lots of information and a good book/CD list and both are always very willing to help with research.

I have in the past belonged to the West Aust. Genealogical Society, New Zealand G.S., Derbyshire F.H.S. ,and Tay Valley F.H.S. in Scotland.
At W.A.G.S in Perth borrowed lots of interesting Fam. Hist Mags from Notts, and Leics. where my English rellies come from and made contact with someone who was writing a history of my grandfather's ancestors so got a lot of information handed to me free.
My grandfather's grandfather was someone she had been searching for for ages and couldn't find so I was able to fill in that bit for her..
Very worthwhile I thought.

Yes, the Guilford Historical Society....and that isn't a spelling mistake! Guilford is in New York State, USA!!! Because of my membership, they can now claim to be International - lol.

Apart from the considerable help, freely given even before I paid up, they produce 1/4ly newsletters detailing the history of various places where my US branch lived, worked or founded.

Yes. I'm a member of the Australind Family History Society in Western Australia.

They have access to to Ancestry and FMP as well as microfiches cd's etc and although geared to Australia there are many useful documents about the UK which is where I orignally hale from.

Relatively cheap membership and internet fees means that I dont have to pay for other sites

Recently joined Essex, Colchester branch. Benefits - CDs to buy with info on local parish registers & lots of local history books etc. However, I found the group to be rather cliquey which is a bit off putting so I have only been to the one meeting.

Not currently, but have belonged to ones for Cornwall, Buckinghamshire, Kent, Devon, Suffolk, and an Irish one.

Benefits? - made connections, was given advice and look ups, read interesting articles from the magazines, and contributed articles, too :-)

Family History societies? If so, which ones and what benefits did you get from joining? :)
