Great Grandmother - appeared to be English now Iri

I'm confused!

My Great Grandmother Letitia Mary Storr born in 1872, birth certificate records born Leather Lane, Holborn, London England.

1881 Census says born in Hatton Garden, London, which is near to the address given on her birth certificate.

1891 - Census says, again, born in Hatton Garden, London

In 1904 she marries my G-grandfather Robert Pinhorn.

On the 1911 census her nationality is given as being Irish.

I can’t have made a mistake surely? The names are unusual.

I’ve ordered a copy of her Death Certificate to see what is recorded on that.

Anyone have any ideas ?

Cheers

Paul

Perhaps her parents were Irish
You should be able to tie her up with the birth cert if the dads name agree on the marriage cert

IF her husband regetered her death he may still say born Ireland if that what he believed!

NOTE the step daughters surname Hoather so she had a child before she married Robert

Would say the elder children are Roberts by a previous marriage in view of the birth years

Hi Shirley

Thanks for all the information.

You are correct that her birth cert records her as Mary Letitia, father John Edward Storr, mother Letitia Mary Storr nee Lamb. I just thought the names had been transposed by mistake?

Again, I’m sorry I should have mentioned, Letitia Mary Storr was married to Alfred Edward Hoather before Reobert Pinhorn. Robert Pinhorn had been married previously too Rosetta Purkiss.

Your comments about the 1911 census record are correct.

Perhaps I having been barking up the wrong tree, perhaps the death certificate will hold the key?

AHH would have helped to know the additional info ,did wonder where you came up with the surname Storr. So Robert when he filled in the 1911 census was incorrect in her birth place as you have her birth cert to prove otherwise, Am back again to maybe there was an Irish connection in her family so he presumed.

Although she was reg as Mary Letitia maybe she preferred to be called Letitia or her parents called her that so she presumed that was her birth name.
Personally I wouldnt set too much store on the 1911 census as you have her birth cert and it all ties up

Hi Shirley.

Oops - yes I'm sorry about that. Again, thanks very much for your help and useful comments.

Even before I embarked on the family tree thing, there was talk of Irish blood in the family. I still have no proof, but these family stories normally have an element of truth in them somewhere.

Hi Paul, I always thought my Granny was Irish too.
In fact.... having eventually found her birth in DURHAM, I found that her father was Irish, but her mother was English.

THEN.... a new mystery which has haunted me for years now.... She has a name change and I cannot find out why.

She is born... TAYLOR
She is married TAYLOR
She is on my Granny's birth Certificate as TAYLOR....
Then she suddenly becomes WEIR!

I have all the certificates, and even phoned the Parish Register office and they sent me all the proof AGAIN... When did she become WEIR?

Did they do things like this to confuse us do you think? ;-0)
Because I am most definitely confused,

Hi Deanna

Glad to see I'm not alone! Add to that you can see Hoather is recorded as Heather and I have a Prytherch in my family that as been transposed in the census as Prytherk and Prychurch!

All good fun.

I'm not sure why but I thought the death certifcate would hold the key, there was no indication of where she was born recorded on it? I think I will stick with Shirley's advice not to pay too much attention to the 1911 Census and stick to the birth certificate data.
