Hi Rose glad you had a good trip to Liverpool, somewhere I must go in the very near future.

I read the link and I'd no idea about that history either. What a shame for all those wives and children, and shame to the Government for tearing families apart.

We did thankyou Joy :) So many snippets of history that I had no idea of, looking at some of the memorials alongside the river is well worth doing family history wise if anyone has rellies from there... I've just had to google to find out about one interestingly worded memorial :

and a bit more recent, the statue of Billy Fury :)

spent a couple of nights at the 'P ****** Inn' ( as advertised by Lenny Henry ;) and very nice it was too! I can recommend it...so can D (children 15 and under get their breakfast free lol)

The weather was lovely so Wednesday afternoon we went to Chester zoo, had to pack a lot into the hour and a half before closing but we did well lol. Then pottered around Chester a bit in the evening, fun spotting all the rhinos in the town centre ( writers group members will be getting a poem ;) lol) , the rhino's are to be auctioned on behalf of two charites, one local and one to raise funds for rhino conservation..and they are great fun to find dotted about. They are a little smaller than life size, and painted...some with flowers , one 'dressed' as Shakespeare with a line from Romeo and Juliet on his rump, even one cunningly painted to resemble a red Chester tour bus :)) A bit of fun for a good cause .

Yesterday we went to Liverpool, and took the Ferry cross the Mersey' , quite choppy with a good breeze blowing but the sun was very warming to counteract it. Great to hear a potted history of the ferry and the city and see so many new bulidings rising, which did not detract from the old dock buildings and the iconic Liver Building...as an 'almost' scouser
( wrong side of the Mersey lol) it was especially interesting to have a bit of the history of that side of the river also, even though we moved when I was too young to remember living there.

If you do get the chance to go to Liverpool , don't let anything put you off, it's really interesting with much more to see than we managed in the short time, so hopefully next time we go up will stay there longer and see what we missed this time ( the new museum opens next year so that's a good reason to go!)

Rose xx
