Fancy sorting out this lady? I was given this character on a school trip to Abbeydale industrial hamlet today. She was real but that is all I can realy be sure of. My character was supposed to be the wife of a cutlery manufacturer during the victorian period in Sheffield Yorks. I would like to take a more rounded character to school for the kids to look at. I was dressed as a Victorian as were the kiddies. A great day out. Elaine. Ps I'm Shattered so will ba abed soon tomorrow will do

It's the same Robert in 1851 and 1861. His first wife, Averilda Jane Rodgers, died and he remarried Emma Summers Young. Odd thing is, their first child was named after his dead first wife.

Well havn't you done well and isn't history fascinating. What a story I will be able to tell the kiddies tomorrow. I am going to look at the Rodgers site, I am well hooked now. If any of you go to Abbydale take a school group, they do you proud it is just like turning back the clock. I really felt I was the person and the people acting out the saga were wonderful. As all the kiddies had names from this era I am going to suggest they try to find more information on line about the personalities they were acting out.
I was shattered last night. We were there 4 hrs and not still for a moment, a really wonderful exhausting day. Many many thanks to you all, bless you. Elaine.

What a great idea to link children up with history and then getting them to research the real person!

I have to confess I have never understood people who think history is boring, I have always loved reading and finding out about things that have happened.

What a name though, Averilda! I bet she wanted to shorten her name to Lilly or something like that!

Yes you are probably right. My dad wanted to call me Amarillys, glad mum talked him out of it...... Still a lily though."Elaine the fair, Elaine the lovable, Elaine the lily maid of Asolat".
