Have you looked at British Forces overseas births, if that was the case?

My father was a civilian who worked for the forces.

I was born in Malta in 1958, another British colony like Malaya. At the time my birth had to be registered locally and I have a lovely certificate registered in Tripoli (Libya).

In 1960 my brother was born and the rules had changed so he has a British Forces abroad certificate. At the same time my parents applied for one of these for me, which I have, so I have 2 birth certificates, one in Arabic from the year of my birth and a British one dated 2 years later.

Hope this might be some help.

our grandaughter was born in Hanover and her dad was a serving soldier posted in Germany at the time . Her birth is in the Army Indices and they had to record her at the British Embassy at the same time to relinquish her German nationality so she didnt have duel Nationality ie British parents born in a British Military Hospital but on German soil.

Hi Shirley, yes, my brother and I were both born in the David Bruce Military Hospital ( British) on Maltese soil. Neither of us have dual nationality although I have asked about it.

Dual Nationality would only occur if one parent was British and the other of say of 'Maltese' birth.

I was born in Malta and both parents were British, therefore 'I' am British and could not claim Maltese heritage, Much as I would like to.

Just a thought, have you looked for his birth registration after you arrived back in the UK? In other words 7 years after hs birth, or looked at the bottom of the page where he SHOULD be registered, where late registrations were handwritten?
