I blame that bloke who gets into my office during the night. He steals my pen, links up all my paperclips and throws chocolate bar wrappers in my bin to make it look like I've eaten all that chocolate.

When we moved from a house in another village, I took the bag of odd socks that I have been saving through the years. Having 5 kids, there was always a lot to wash.Only counted them after moving to present house, (72) and threw them out at last. This is true !!
I think that all the socks that go missing, are floating around in the ether, together with all the fat we lose when dieting, the mails that simply vanish from our p.c's....lost chances, etc..Lol.

I bought some socks from the M&S outlet store in Street, Somerset on the way down to a camping holiday. When I put them on, I realised they had 'L' and 'R' on the bottom.
I bought another packet on the way home!
Now, I count them in, count them out, count them off the line - and 'pair' them up.

Unfortunately I now lose my socks in pairs!

Georgy, it is not a case of them getting lost in my wash but they are odd when they arrive at the washer!

Libby maybe your bag of socks will match up with my bag of odd ones lol.I chucked a whole bag out a while ago after waiting about 6 months to see if I could find matches.I now have another collection.

Get yourself a mesh washbag to chuck your socks in, i use one to put small items in, socks hankies belts etc, and it saves having a dark item stuck on the drum, which then gets washed again with a light wash, usually with disasterous results lol

It must be an age thing...
When my children were small, I never lost socks in the wash, having made sure that both socks of the pair went into the machine.
Once the children were older I insisted that as the socks were taken off, they were straight away looped together before going into the washing bin..... Still no problem.
As adults all that went to pot and like the rest of you I have a bag of odd socks waiting for the partners.

Daughter now buys her son 6 pairs of identical black socks at a time, so there is always a 'pair' ready for school mornings.

i thought this problem would go when the kids started leaving home, but nope i still have odd socks and to make matters worse our lap dogs have a sock fetish and i find odd socks all over the garden at any one time x

When my cutlery used to go missing some years ago, son used to find it when he cleared out the pond every 2 years. Our dear dog at that time was partial at chucking things into pond and then barking - usually his kong or ball - must have had a shock when the cutlery sank, I expect the fish did too - he did that until he was about 4 ot 5.

At least I know where my cutlery goes - under the flaming decking (bar-b-qs) along with my clothes pegs. lol

My son now only wears black socks and says no one will notice it they are not a matching pair! I hung on to a bag of his odd socks for 2 years and not one turned up. My husband never lost socks.

I asked son one time did he give girls he met a sock as a memento?

No socks in my filter or pump Bob - just the odd 5p piece or copper ring ( son is a plumber, oops sorry, heating engineer). I have the machine serviced every six months, under contract so I know they are not lurking in either of those places. lol

In view of my son's occupation, why have I been waiting for an outside tap to be fitted for just over 3 years?

HMMMmm! my son works, re-furbishing washing machines......and you wouldnt believe the things that are hiding in the filters and the pumps...

We all know that this black hole exists....... I have a carrier bag of odd socks to prove it. If it doesn't exist then it must prove that my washing machine has some sort of sock fetish

What I want to know is why does my above mentioned carrier bag contain socks that do not belong to anyone that lives in this house????

Does the mysterious black hole spit the odd "odd sock" back out and INTO my machine?
