ON MONDAY I GOT A CALL FROM DR CLINIC HAD BLOOD TESTS WEEK BEFORE,HAD TO SEE HIM YESTERDAY,
NOT BRILLIANT NEWS
IRON COUNT 7
HEMOGOB 11
BOTH NOT GOOD
CANT HAVE IRON SUPLIMENT
CANT HAVE INJECTONS
CANT HAVE TRANSFUSION

SO IN THE MEAN TIME A HIGH IRON
DIET,APART FROM USUAL LIVER AND
SPINICH WHAT ELSE CANT FIND MUCH
HELP PLEASE,
IM A WEE BIT CROOK,NOT WELL AT ALL
ANY SUGESTIONS PLEASE

I googled Iron deficiency diet and found several sites, just copied this bit for you.

iron-rich diet
Eating a diet with iron-rich foods can help treat iron-deficiency anemia. Good sources of iron include the following:


meats - beef, pork, lamb, liver, and other organ meats
poultry - chicken, duck, turkey, liver (especially dark meat)
fish - shellfish, including clams, mussels, and oysters, sardines, anchovies
leafy greens of the cabbage family, such as broccoli, kale, turnip greens, and collards
legumes, such as lima beans and green peas; dry beans and peas, such as pinto beans, black-eyed peas, and canned baked beans
yeast-leavened whole-wheat bread and rolls
iron-enriched white bread, pasta, rice, and cereals

I believe that the way your body uses iron from food is helped by Vitamin C intake, so perhaps increasing that vitamin will enable you to absorb more iron naturally.

Make sure this is all OK with your doctor.

Watercress - very high in iron. Apparently more than spinach. I loathe spinach but watercress sandwiches OK

Dizzi, I have had to drastically alter my diet in the last couple of weeks after blood tests - it's not bad news, it just tells you what you need more or less of and I'm finding as long as you enter it with a positive frame of mind, it's all right and not hard at all.

I KNOW I HAVE GOT TO GET MY MIND IN GEAR
JUST FOR THE PAST YEAR I WAS ON IRON TABLETS AT THE SAME TIME MY PD DETERIATED AT A EXTREEMLY FAST RATE,DR TALKED OF WHEELCHAIRS TILL I READ AN ARTICAL THAT IRON COATED SINIMET MEDICATION IN THE GUT STOPPING IT BEING ABSORBED,WHEN SINIMET INCREASED IT WASNT DOING ANY GOOD.
SO NO IRON SUPLIMENTS,
I JUST GOT TO KICK MYSELF BACK TO THINKING POSITVE ,(DONT ALL QUEUE SO QUICK TO KICK)

Ifyou do not like liver as a meal - how about making a liver pate? Tastier and easier to eat.

You CAN have Chocolate for Dessert. As long as you eat ALL your greens. : )
Drinking FRESH orange Juice with meals will help with Iron absorbtion.

I had a low iron count when I was pregnant, and I was told that plain chocolate was a good source of iron - not too much obviously!

The old habit of drinking a cup of tea with meals at home is not good, but drinking a glass of orange juice during a meal does help the body absorb any iron from food, apparently.

Why can you not have injections Gwen?

I would ask your doctor if you can see a dietician as they will be able to advise you better with your day to day diet and iron intake.

Good luck, it's hard changing tack as I found when I had to consider o.h.'s diabetes as I plan meals now.
