I am brand new to the seemingly difficult task of searching for relatives. What is confusing me is that I put a birth search into this website for a William Albert Swymer born 1896 plus/minus 2 years. The webiste came back saying 20 possible matches. I viewed the 20 quarterly records over the five year span and found not one record with the name Swymer. Am I doing something wrong ???? |

Raymond,re Ancestry.co.uk, you can take out a two week free trial ( you need a credit card and to remember to cancel just before the 2 weeks is up or they will charge) you can get a lot done in that time and it will give you a good idea of whether a full subscription to the site would be worth having. |

Raymond-There is always familysearch.com which will allow you to view the 1881 census free of charge, together with information prior to 1837. You could also join your local library and get the library editon of Ancestry free of charge. It all depends how much you want to spend but you might as well consider the freebies on offer before spending. |

I think this may be William's brother on the census - there is a death on the Commonwealth War Graves Commission WW1 which could be Walter. |
