Could anyone tell me please,,,Is it £9-00 from a local register office and £9-50 from the GRO?

Out local RO charges £9.00 if you collect in person, otherwise you have to supply a Stamped Addressed Envelope. If the Register concerned is incomplete, that is, still in use either by the Church or the Registrar, the charge is reduced £7.00. They also add a £1 admin charge if you pay by card. Certificates are ready for collection or posting 5 days after ordering.

Other RO's may vary slightly as to whether they charge for extras and how quickly they turn round.

i recently paid £10 for a certificate but that included recorded delivery post from the local register office

Winchester Registry office charged me £9.00 including postage and taking a card payment over the phone. Looks like they all vary slightly. I recently paid £9.25 including postage through GRO.

GRO is fixed at £9.25 for all applications, including those from abroad, and includes postage.
