Sadly Liz many Boxers leap about...my vet used to describe them with the word Loopy............We got ours 6 years ago and she was as mad as a Hatter, but with patience and training she is now lovely and a lot calmer...she actually walks better off the lead than she does on it.

Like you we have a big park at the back of us with a Lake and plenty of play areas for children...we too all clean up after our dogs, Me and OH always joke that every coat/jacket/sweatshirt we own always has "Poo bags in the pocket" empty ones i hasten to add!! Lol...the amount i find in the washing machine as OH puts them in tracksuit bottom trousers and they up going through the Wash.

A woman across the road has two rescue boxers, but sadly they aren't friendly, she walks them but discourages people from touching them and they leap about all the time she is passing by.

I was lucky with my lovely lab/cross, she was brilliant with all the children I childminded and the local kids too, we got her when my son was 4 but I taught him to be gentle and caring with her and not rough, altho they played together all the time. He would take her out and meet his friends when he was about 8 and they would all play together in a wooded area close by which I managed to get kept dog friendly. The local council banned dogs from the big park and the wooded area too but I got a petition up and they kept the ban for just the park itself. It was great to go to the little area and meet other dog owners and let the dogs chase the ball and play together and we were careful about cleaning up too.

As the owner of an 8 year old Boxer dog, I am not suprised by its affection with this small child.

Years ago a friend of mine wanted to get a dog but was unsure of what breed would be best with her young children...

They visited a Vet who who gave them a list of suitable breeds.....top of that list was Boxer...ahead of Labrador and Spaniel and all the others that you would imagine would be top.

Boxers have a wonderful temperment, and are soppy and lovable { if a liittle mad and would never win an Obedience class}..........my new little grandaughter is only 3 weeks old but my Boxer just comes and takes a look and then lays down near to her.

Many breeds nowadays have have a bad reputation, and Boxers sometimes have a bad reputation with other dogs, but as a dog to have around children you couldn`t ask for a better example........as the video clip proves...

I too was a bit surprised at the way the dog was allowed to lick the child's face and also that the dummy went on the floor and baby picked it up and stuck it back in his mouth, the dog had been running on the same piece of carpet so heaven knows what germs were on there ugh!

I know it's not sensible to have everywhere and everything sterile with children (except very young babies) or they don't build up immunity but with dogs about, there is always the risk of toxicariasis which can cause blindness in children and presumably adults too.

I would also have been wary of the dog playing chase with the child, it could have become overexcited - dog and child - and if the child accidentally hit the dog, it might have reacted by nipping or biting.

It was lovely to see the child laughing so much and enjoying the game tho.

They were lovely videos Liz,thanks for sharing.But afraid I'd be very,very wary about letting my baby/child climb over a dog and having it's hands licked.

However,having said that,I did actually love the very last vid.,where the little boy was hugging the Labrador and I got emotional when they walked away together through the grass,
