Just A Bit Annoyed

Had a member a couple of days ago send me a message using my full name.

Tawny Owl can I look at your tree Brown Owl.

No questions, No please or thank you and nothing to show how she thought we might be related. I recognised the name and realised I had made contact with her two years before and had established then we were not related even though our ancestors share the same name, year and county of birth.

Thankfully this is the first time in my three years on the site that I have ever encountered this and most people on here are incredibly helpful. Just a bit annoyed that some people in the minority think that by demanding something they should get what they want.

Sorry I wasn't clear. GR have composed messages that we can use such as

Dear ......

Please would you give me access to view your tree?

Best Regards,

............

Did it look like that? Thanks

I have had emails "Request to view your tree" - nothing about the name they are looking for, or any message. If GR send automated messages, perhaps there should be a box to enter the name/s members are looking for.

I expect they're wondering why you haven't responded !!! LOL.

How about the one I got........Who did Joe Smith marry .

No 'dear Karen', no 'I think we may share an ancestor', not so much as a by your leave. The cheek of some people beggars belief.
It wouldn't surprise me if the sender wasn't one of those who puts up those messages along the lines of - why does nobody reply to my PM's. LOL!!!!

It is just possible - because I have done the same thing by mistake - that in following up Hot Matches through the new system of putting new names together and then clicking next - it is now not spelt out if you have been in touch before and she just saw the names as a possible new match.

When I have done this - only recalling a previous contact when I saw the surname in the messages list - I have sent a further message apologising and explaining.

And I have gone back to the earlier system of going through all the Hot Matches looking for "New"
