Thank you all for your help. I will check Pulloxhill registers to see if the Richard either died or married there. If so that will cancel him out of being the Richard who married in Aldbury.

Thanks for the information about the 1841 census I was taking it for granted he had been born in Bedfordshire because of the Y. I think I mustn't discard the Richard born in Flamstead Although it does seem strange that he is removed to Battlesden Bedfordshire rather than Flamstead in Hertfordshire.
Maybe the boundaries changed.
Thank you all for your very helpful replies. I have been going around in circles.

the 1841 Census only says Born in County .. answered with a y or n ...... then Ireland, Scotland or Foreign ... answered with I, S or F

the modern-day transcriber then put the county in birthplace if y was the answer.

you can't always trust the 1841!

Plus of course, ages and birth years are upto 4 years out ....... ages of all people over the age of 15 were usually rounded down to the nearest 5 on the 1841 ....... although not all enumerators did do that.

The give away is if all ages shown are multiples of 5.

Not necessarily, that could have been where he had been living prior to his arrival in Aldbury, and do`nt mean it was definetly his place of birth.

How close are Pulloxhill and Battlesden to each other?

Hi,
I have a Richard Neale who married in 1796 an Elizabeth Weedon in Aldbury Hertfordshire. In 1820 he is removed back to his place of settlement Battlesden Bedfordshire with his wife and
and three of his children.

I can find no trace of the birth of a Richard in Battlesden but I can find a Richard born 1772/1773 in Pulloxhill Bedfordshire. In the 1841 census when Richard is living in Potsgrove Bedfordshire he says he was born in Bedfordshire. There is another Richard born in the 1770 in Flamstead Hertfordshire.
I wonder if anyone has any ideas. If someone is removed back to his place of settlement by a removal order in1820 is it always his place of birth ?
