Callum Finnegan. The local mobster who reigned terror on Brooskide Close and the Bar Brookie from 1997 to 2000. He killed a few people and had the bomb planted in 1999 for the club explosion which killed Greg Shadwick. Callum in the end had his brother Alasdair Finnegan killed.

I began watching Brookie in 1995 during the Trevor Jordache murder trial.

Just remembered another Casualty/Holby person who used to be in Brookie.......Tess. I've a feeling she was a nurse in that too!

Hi Nicky,

Jessica from Casualty is still alive and kicking here - we're a year or so behind the UK!!

I think it was Heather's 2nd hubby who had the drug problem, not the first, Roger, who she divorced, can't remember why, did he cheat on her? I do remember the episode where she spectacularly chucks him out on the street throwing his brief case behind him.
But didn't Jimmy Corkhill get into drugs in a big way , later on.

The scaffolding death was quite a big story with cliff-hanger at the time. I think Barry Grant pushed Terry's girlfriend/wife, who was also pregnant (?), but it was a 'did she fall or was she pushed' question for ages, and if I remember rightly, I don't think Terry found out for years (until they needed to pep up the viewing statistics).
Of course, I could have all that totally wrong!
It's all so long ago now!

I`ve seen to Buy or not to buy...but didn`t realise it was him.

As for the girl who played girlfriend Debbie { I remember the Spin off} didn`t realise that was Jessica from Casualty...but now you`ve said it, I can see its her...she`s actually just finished in Casualty, but they didn`t kill her charecter off so she may come back.

Back to Brookie...who was it died or got serously injured on the Scaffolding after Barry Grant made it unsafe? or did Barry push them?...Was it his best friend Terry or his girlfriend....? I can picture bits of it, but have blanks as to what happened.

Another good storyline was Heather Havershams husband having a drug problem, and how they unfolded it all.

Agree about that Ron with the Moby...I`d sort of stopped watching it by then, I think in its final years it went downhill a bit, and they lost a lot of veiwers...thats why they folded it in the end.

Nicky, it's one of those morning progs on BBC 1, can't remember what it is called at the mo, if I recall the title will let you know.

He's a dapper sort of little chap now.

Lizx

just googled him

Simon O'Brien (19 June 1965, Garston, Liverpool) is a British television actor and radio presenter as well as a property developer.

He came to prominence as the character Damon Grant in Brookside, a role he played from the soap's launch in 1982 until 1987, when his character was killed off in York at the end of the 'soap bubble' Damon and Debbie.

He acted in the UK version of Fraggle Rock from 1987 until 1988 as BJ the lighthouse keeper. He also presented the 'Rough Guide' travel programmes for a time with Magenta Devine.

In the 1990s, after a spell presenting BBC football show Standing Room Only, he left show business and, with Alan Bate, set up Liverpool Cycle Centre, a combination of vegetarian café, cycle shop, cycle parking and other resources relevant to his enthusiasm for cycling. O'Brien then moved into property development. He has since returned to acting and presenting, with a short-lived football quizshow, Do I Not Know That?, on ITV Digital , co-presenting the BBC One show To Buy or Not to Buy, as well as playing caretaker Wally Scott in Grange Hill since 2003.

He is an Everton F.C. fan and, in the past, has been the club's Public Address announcer.

He presented BBC Radio Merseyside's Breakfast show with Lucinda Moore from September 2006 until 25 June 2007, when he resigned after the accidental broadcast of a package which he had prepared of him saying "f*** the government, f***k the planners".

As of January 2008, O'Brien is returning to the airwaves as the co-host of the breakfast show on City Talk 105.9 in his home city.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
He was recently on Country Tracks I think, showing someone round Sefton Park and places in Liverpool I kept the recording as it was so interesting and since my visit for the meet in Liverpool in 2009, I want to go back there and see more of the area.
Mind you Brookside was filmed mostly anywhere but in a pub as for Eastenders and Corrie. Never out of it.
I watched it at the beginning.
I used to like Billy Corkhill - he got together with Sheila Grant after many years. And liked Heather Haversham too, both went on to do bigger and better things, especially Heather (Amanda Burton) and Sheila Grant/Sue Johnston, who landed major parts in Royale Family and Waking the Dead, to name a few.
Anyway, talking of Damon Grant (he of the squeeky voice)...does anyone remember his girlfriend Debbie? The one he got engaged to, just before he was killed?
Well she's been in a few small roles since Brookie, but more recently had a bigger part as Jessica in Casualty/Holby - sorry, I get those two programmes mixed up.
Yes he was in some house hunting programme, still with squeeky voice but slightly less broad on the accent.
Can't remember my favourite storyline, but there were a few far fetched ones in there (like all soaps, they've got to keep thinking up SOMETHING).
I couldn't stand Ron wotsit - with the wig and the fruit n veg moby - my goodness he was SUCH a moaner.
I didn't watch it much but can remember a few of the characters. I was surprised to see that the person who played Damon Grant, Simon O'Brien, now presents one of those house selling programmes on BBC 1.
Sheila Grants rape story...brilliant acting by all concerned
Sue Johnston as Sheila and Ricky Tomlinson as her husband portrayed their parts beautifully and made it all so believable.
