I will try that JoyBoroAngel.
I am concerned that despite me trying to get her to drink she isn't doing so. She is on wet food so will get a little liquid from that I suppose.

Sorry not to have replied till now and thanks for all the comments (even Susan lol).
She was very drowsy when we picked her up as she had been given Temgesic.
She needed lots of cuddles as she couldn't stand or sit. (That's my excuse anyway).
Rang vets this morning as despite her drinking loads she hadn't wee'd since before 4pm yesterday despite taking her outside every 2 hours even during the night.....
Took her for a check up late this morning and she had a slight bladder but not over full. They gave her more Temgesic and she has slept most of the day. She has not drunk much today and seems very low but I know that's the drug working.
Hopefully she will be back to her normal mad self by the weekend. She has antibiotic cover and is eating OK. Going back to vets tomorrow for another check up. Will let you know how she goes on.

When i was speyed i was fine, honestly, Ok i was tired for about six months which meant i could'nt do the ironing, the shopping or put the hoover round. I had to eat lots of rich food and lots of cake and chocolate but apart from that i was fine!

JoyBoroAngel

JoyBoroAngel Report 22 Sep 2010 13:48

when i had peggy spayed she was fine
i dont think she knew she had been done
she came out the vets and jumped straight in the car
though we did try to keep her quiet and calm
she was her very same self we dropped off before her op
though some are still a bit sleepy
i would recomend covering her with a light blanket tonight
just to keep her extra warm
while the anesthetic leaves her body
and some vets say only water tonight
but some say a little rice pudding or scrambled egg is ok

They have just just phoned from the vets. I was a bit panicked as they originally said they would phone at 3pm. She is slowly recovering from her op and will be ready to collect at 4pm. Phew!!!
Off to have a bite to eat and wake OH at 2pm.
Thanks for all the comments.

They bring a lot of love and laughter into a home. Both OH were raised with dogs and always had a dog but not the past two years. Gdau keeps asking when gdad is getting a pup but I have told her unless things improve dramatically I am gdad's pup!. The house is not the same.
Enjoy.

I acknowledge she needed this op and she is also having a small umbilical hernia repair done too. She has had 2 seasons the first lasting 6 weeks so in the long run she will be less at risk to ovarian cancer too. We have never had a dog of our own before and it's been a learning curve for us both but she has given us so much joy since we got her just before Christmas.
Not been told about pyo before though so thanks JoyBoroAngel for this.

JoyBoroAngel

JoyBoroAngel Report 22 Sep 2010 12:24

you are saving her from maybe developing a pyo (poison uterus )
later in life its very common in un spayed bitches
and the odds on survival are not always good

Leni
Daisy was the runt too. She loves being stroked under her belly and can lie for abour an hour at a time while we do this.
My OH thinks that she will need 24/7 care for 2 weeks. He is so smitten she is spoilt rotten. I have taken some annual leave to care for her for a few days.

Bless............... The things we do for our pets eh?
The vets we use are very helpful and re-assuring. Think OH is more worried about her not waking up. As a nurse myself I know the risks of anaesthetics but am not worried, just very lost without her running around the house.

Hi , I have two Llasa Apsos and one of them is called Daisy, she was the runt of the litter, her brother is quite big but he is such a baby!
Daisy was spayed and I felt like you are feeling when I left her at the vets.

But she sailed through the op and had no ill efects. Mind, she did enjoy all the fuss made of her when she returned home.!

Going off the type of pet, you have reminded me of taking our cat to be speyed more than 50 years ago.

My parents were elderly and infirm, and I had the task of taking the cat the 7 miles to the nearest town. We had no transport so I had to go on the bus. Imagine the picture of this young girl, with a very angry cat in a cardboard box tied up with string, on a bus for the 45 minute journey. Cats paws, complete with claws, can poke out of a cardboard box. I did manage to get her there, but flatly refused to bring her home the next day on the bus. Dad had to pay for a taxi.

She was a much loved pet for many years.

Ice~Ice~Baby
Thanks for the re-assurance.
Can't do too many chores though as OH in bed (on night shifts) and a light sleeper. Putting furniture she normally climbs on out of reach so she can't jump up and cause any wound probs. She is so adorable.

Daisy our 11 month old Llasa Apso being speyed and micro-chipped as I write this and I'm fretting.
She is the daughter we have never had and didn't think it would be so difficult dropping her off at 9am. Done a bit of shopping but now killing time till they phone to say she can be collected. OH shed a few tears too.
