I have always been fascinated with names. So when I was asked as a child to record what seemed like an endless list of names by my Nan I was delighted that she had chosen me. I have been reading Carole's thread with interested esp because some are in my neck of the woods. I thought I would share a couple of interesting names with you. Zipporah Stevens as many of you will know is one of my favourite ancestors. She is my 3 x great grandmother born in Brierley Hill in Staffs c 1804. Being fascinated with her and hoping to go back further I soon found her parents were William Stevens and Jane Green (ordinary ... perhaps). I then found Zipporah had 10 siblings. Now I know Zipporah is not that unusual a name as its biblical and one of the first ever used, but I discovered she had a brother Zamre and a sister Zammarah and now they really got my attention. I have never seen either of the names before (they may be biblical but I haven't seen them) and I would love to find out more, but don't know what my next step is.

Oe theory on these names is that somewhere along the line there were Russian Immagrants. Someone told me that around the turn of the century Tsar Peter the Great commissioned spies to come to England to find out about chain making skills. I really don't know if its true or not.

Any suggestions how I might move with this one?
