There is no concept of a 'lapsed' member on GR. You remain a member for all time unless you choose to delete your profile from the website.

However, some members may no longer bother to log into the site, or, may only do so infrequently. Unfortunately , if the message has not been read then there is little you can do. If it has been read then a follow up can sometimes bring a response.

Linda the details remain on the site, it is possible that GR will notify the person that they have a message, but that will only get through if the person is still using the same email address.

No, the message i sent had not been opened.

I just wondered whether once a persons membership has lapsed. is the persons family tree and contact details deleted from the Site, or does their family tree and contact details actually remain on this website?

i know how it feels as i hardly ever get any replys to my emails asking if we have a connection although most of them get opened and i send quite a lot but i still often wonder if we ever did have a connection but i guess ill never know.

I received a reply to-day from a message I sent 13.4.09. He said he'd been too busy to come on here. You just have to be patient - don't delete.

There are many reasons that members do not open their PMs as they may not visit the site

they may have been taken Ill
they may have lost interest in their family tree
other interests in their lives making more and more demands on their time.
They may have died. I know of a least 5 trees on this site of people who have passed away.

When I send a message to a potential contact I always think it is their loss if they don't reply as I have information that they may find fascinating

It is annoying and even more so when they have been opened and still no reply even to say 'no'.

If a person is no longer a memer but has kept the same email address they will still be sent an email by Genes telling them that they have a message and they can still view the message and respond to it. The only thing they can't do is initiate a contact or add to the community boards.

If they have changed their email address there is nothing Genes can do to contact them.

I was just wondering whether the following only happens to me?

When I find a match on this Site and send a message to the contact listed, I receive no reply. I've just deleted one message that has been sat in my Out Box since February!

Perhaps someone can tell me what happens when a person is no longer a member on Genes Reunited, is their account disabled?

I seem to be sending messages to no one of no account?!
