Finding living relatives in Scotland

I am brand new to Genes Reunited. I just uploaded by family tree that I have been working on for some time. I know there's lots of things I probably need to fix, but all in due time.

My goal is to visit Scotland in 2011, the county of my ancestors of my given name, Pearson. I am hopeful that someone will find my tree and see a common ancestor and get ahold of me.

Welcome Pamela

As you have said, there are a number of things that a newby such as yourself needs to work out. At the moment, one of them is that it is against T&C to post your email address on a public board.......for your own protection if nothing else! :-)

Just click on the edit button under your post, and delete off your address.

Depending on the size of your tree and your enthusiasm, you can find people with the same names by either

1) 'search trees' on the top left of almost every page
2)hover your mouse over the name on your tree which will tell you how many people with the same yob are listed. Click on that, and you'll get a list to sort through.

GR isn't that good about matching the place of birth, so you may get eg Jo Bloggs born in Edinburgh matched with Jo Bloggs born in Hastings in the south of England!

By the way, GR doesn't hold records for Scotland, so hopefully, you have only paid a basic subscription.

if you need any help tracking down relatives, do start a thread on Trying to find, or Records. If people can't find the info, they can probably point you in the right direction. Every one is the same as you, paid up members, so are trying to help out of the goodenss of their hearts.

Have fun, and hopefully you will make it to Scotland next year.

Pamela, you need to read the replies to messages you post. You have a few on the Trying to Find board. Not just keep posting the same thing on different boards ...

Click "My threads" on the left of your monitor to see all threads you have started or posted in.

No one can see your tree here unless you expressly open it to someone. People can find names in your tree as described by DET above, which is the best thing for you to do. No one related will ever see your posts, let alone have any idea who you are related to, from them!

Thanks again. I will go back to all threads I have started and delete my email address. And take every suggestion you all have given me. Many thanks.
