Hi all,
Can anyone tell me why I can find no reference to my great aunt Winnie's death in the national death records accessed on this site (or whatever they are called) yet I found the following details on IGI: Winifred Louisa Towse, DOD 14/05/1973. I also have the original marriage cert for my grandma and grandad, both of whom died before I was born, yet I cannot find that on the marriage records either. He also doesn't show up on the 1911 census either, yet I have the marriage cert which proves he was married at age 30 in 1916???
Any help/info is much appreciated.
Debbie

Winifred's birth and death are
*** Form submitted by a member of the LDS Church.*** which means that someone has uploaded their family tree!!

WINIFRED LOUISA TOWSE
Birth:
02 JUL 1890 Middleton On The Wolds, Yorkshire, England
Death: 14 MAY 1973
Father: JOHN ROBERT TOWSE Family
Mother: JANE CHAMBERS

GR don't hold records themselves, they redirect you to other sites. Most BMD are transcribed records for England and Wales. if events occured elsewhere, they may not be shown.

If you wanted to start a thread for the 1911 census, and any other queries you have on Trying to find or Records, someone ( a paying member like yourself) will try to help.

EDIT as JaneyC has found some record references to your relative, DO NOT start another thread and DO NOT delete this one. Any additional info found can be added here and kept together.

As I understand it, this site doesn't actually have any records, it just allows people to access them elsewhere. No one will ever recommend paying to access records here. Ancestry or FindMyPast are infinitely better value for money.

From Ancestry -- also available free of charge at FreeBMD

http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl

Name: Winifred Louisa Towse
Year of Registration: 1890
Quarter of Registration: Jul-Aug-Sep
District: Driffield
County: Yorkshire - East Riding
Volume: 9d
Page: 325

Is it not likely she was married and died under a different surname??

A possible marriage from FreeBMD:

(after 1910 use middle initials to search only, not middle names)

Marriages Jun 1933
Gray George H Towse Howden 9d 212
Towse Winifred L Gray Howden 9d 212

but that would be late.

However, she is the only Winifred L Towse in the births index, so it is very probably her.

From Ancestry:

Name: Winifred Louise Gray
Birth Date: 2 Jul 1890
Death Registration Month/Year: 1973
Registration district: Goole
Inferred County: Yorkshire West Riding
Volume: 2b
Page: 1260

There are no births to the Gray-Towse marriage (Winifred would have been nearly 43 when she married). If you do know of any children to the couple, there is a Towse birth with mother Towse in the same registration district in 1928. It was not uncommon for people to partner without marriage if one person was prevented from marrying by an existing marriage, and to marry late after the death of that spouse, if s/he predeceased.

So please -- don't start another thread!

It's actually against the rules to duplicate, and although Chat is not the board for such things, it's wise to wait a while and see whether someone answers a question (as I have) and not start again on another board.
