Canadian records of that kind are not accessible, because we protect that kind of personal information here under privacy laws. (It's a criminal offence to disclose information from the list of electors, except for election purposes, for instance.)

Depending on the province, death information may be available for as recently as 50 years ago, but that's no help. Marriages are protected for about 75 years and births for 100 years in most provinces.

Emigration from the UK can be tracked at sites like FindMyPast up to 1960, but that's just a little too early for you.

It's a tough situation for people who have lost touch with family.

The main resource remaining is the telephone book:

but if you don't know what her surname would be, or where she settled, that might not be much help.

The other faint hope is google. You never know, she may be involved in a community organization, or have a job, that involves having contact info on the net.

Does anyone know how to gain access to the immigration records in canada 1978 or if you can view the canadian electroll list to find someone. I am really struggling with finding any info about my birth mother who emmigrated from uk 36 yrs ago. Many thanks
