One of my connections was born male but changed his name by deed poll to a woman's name, don't know if he had a sex change operation though, interesting for me.

How have you shown him on your tree? By his original details or his/her new details? It's all so confusing isn't it?

And what about same sex marriages? How many tree programmes can cope with those?

I have similar situations in various parts of my tree but I'm not even going to attempt to put their details on - especially as the people concerned are still alive. (That's my excuse anyway!)

Thats very interesting Susan, and a sign of the times!

I wish I could put someones birth parents AND adoptive parents on, its hard knowing how to do it.

I shall not be putting him in my tree as he/she may still be alive and we haven't met, I found this out on his birth cert, he is Australian and it was added at the bottom he was 54 when he had the name change and would be in his 80s now. when I go back I shall see if I can find/meet him. I have found the Australian certs have more info on them than ours (English).
