Rita was your grandmother related to my Dad Lol? He used to make that cough syrup, I loved it too, and for a sore throat he would mash butter and sugar which I had to let melt down my throat, loved that too. And blue bag for stings, I guess it was something in the blue bag that soothed.

I use essential oils but not homeopathy, have to be careful as I already take BP tablets and statins.

Incidentally did anyone else see the research that has been done that seems to prove that multi vitamins containing antioxadents and minerals can cause skin cancer tumours to grow faster? Especially in women and more dangerous to those with fair skin and those who have spent a lot of time in the sun.

I have tried homeopathic treatments for my son when he was young and for myself. But I think it is mind over matter. My practitioner always made sugestions for diet change and exercise along with the homoepathic pills. I think the diet change and exersise are the actual things that work.
Like the onion on the sting in Ritas post! The tablets are going to work in the users mind. Bach remiedies I have used, again it's mind over matter. I used one to help with panic attack, it worked. But was it because my mind was moved towards where are my drops? Searching my bag or pocket to find them, opening the bottle and putting the drops in my mouth.
Naturally my mind was moved towards the drops away from the panic. But whatever they were good !!! Children have a very open mind so if mummy said this will help make you better they quietly open their mouth and expect to feel better.
But how can it work with animals??? ha ha

Hello Elizabeth

A plastic surgeon got me to put rosehip oil on a facial scar and it worked really well.
My own doctor says eat a couple of brazil nuts for selenium.. I don't know whether they work but I like brazil nuts so am not complaining.
I was getting dangerously close with the old glucose test for too much blood sugar... read in a book about taking cinnamon and chromium tablets - I did this and next test it had come way down. I have since found a combined tablet it says take two but I only take one a day and a year later my blood test was A okay.
But for somethings you have to go with what the doctor gives you... puffers for asthmatics for example.

Then there is my mother's remedy - bang your head and she would put butter on it - did it work - no just made me greasy. On the other hand I had a finger that kept festering when I was little and my father made a soap and sugar poultice and it worked.

Digitalis - foxgloves - they used that in one of the Midsomer Murders episodes.
If it isn't going to do you any harm then why not .... but I will leave my foxgloves in the garden.

I think quite a few of the medical practioners here advise alternative medicines as well as conventional, but they come at a price.

We use all these things and often with success and often we learn lots from just having contact with the homeopath themselves

BUT I have to say it must be REMEMBERED its NOT ALTERNATIVE MEDICINE they do like to call it complementary medicine as you can use it together with our nhs systems medicines

I,m not being rude but often Homeopathic medicines DONT cure they assist the body to heal and it cant heal totally from very high blood pressure or cancer without other help

Sharron, that's sad news of your friend.

I prefer to use homeopathic medicine when possible but I can't always afford it, but can get ordinary prescriptions free, being a pensioner. I wish the doctor would take more advantage of homeopathic remedies and was able to prescribe them in the same way as ordinary medications.

I found 5htp was good instead of antidepressants and also the Ativa with Passiflora drops, they kept me more emotionally 'level' and less weepy when times were tough.

I have never had much faith in conventional medicine but have recently had a bit of an eye opener.Met up with a school friend who was an alternative therapist. We were discussing the menopause and how it wasn't so bad and my mate told me she did take red clover for hot flushes but that was all.

She has since died of breast cancer and I have read that red clover is particularly dangerous for women who do have it.

Hypnotherapy is the best thing I ever did.

Hello Elizabeth

My father died after using so many persciption drugs for arthritus, handed out by his doctor like sweets my mother died 6 months later from kidney failure after she had a fall hurting her shoulder a 6 weeks stay in hospital and more drugs than you can shake a stick at, hence my path into homeopathy

I have used homeopathy, essential oils and Bach flower remedies for the last 25 years in that time I have not had any pills from the doctor or the chemist.

20 years ago went on courses for homeopathy, essential oils and Bach flower and there were several nurses from local hospitals and nursing homes on the courses for essential oils and Bach flower. They were hoping to use them in care for the elderly.

I have lived in Germany and it is normal practise for the doctors to use homeopathic remedies, In Spain there are areas where it is also practiced.

There are also three NHS homeopathic hospitals already in the UK

Use oil of cloves for tootache, and lavender oil to calm down with. Vick in a basin of hot water, breathe in the steam to relieve a cold., eucalyptus oilrubbed on the chest for the same thing. Would try homeopathy, but am on so many prescrition drugs would have to be very wary. Wish things like this were available on NHS, after all, Digitalis is a natural drug, and aspirin, though refined by chemical companies.

Dear All

Hello

Hope you are okay.

Do you use homeopathy, essential oils or Bach flower remedies?

Do you think that some of these actually work better than
so called conventional medicine?

Is there room for them to work together in the NHS?

Take gentle care
Very best wishes
