It would be good if they could read out the info over the phone, handy for more distant family where we want the info but its not too sentimental. It would save their workload and save on postage, so the price could go down.

In Southern Ireland they issue photocopies - a lot cheaper - and that is all we need really. Just the details.

It is a nice little earner for government this hobby of ours.

Hi
We have been lucky me and hubby so far, because as we come from rural old Lincolnshire it's been incredibly easy even for hubby's Smith's!
My side has particular surnames from certain villages and they've been the only ones living there so again easy..

I've only got one wrong so far and even that was a relative. They never sent the cert because they realised it wasn't the wife of who I was also ordering..I was peeved about that.. as I don't remember asking them to do a check on the names...

But oh I do feel for those of you in big cities or densely poulated areas.. I have some Atkinsons in Hull and I am struggling with them..there's loads of them not at all related to mine...
Though some peeps on ancestry seem to think they are, doh!

I have found that by applying to the Reg. Office local to the event, is easier at times. They have phoned me to confirm or ask for more details. I believe GRO do not do checks anymore.

They would loose a lot of money from us keen Family history hunters. I have ended up with the wrong certificates as well.

GREAT IF WE COULD SEE bmd CERTIFICATES BEFORE PURCHASE. i AM SO FED UP FORKING OUT FOR WRONG ONES. WHEN YOU GET SO MANY WITH THE SAME NAME IN THE SAME AREA IT DOES MAKE LIFE VERY DIFFICULT. AH WELL HERE GOES ANOTHER £9.25.
