It could be as a gtgtg/father didnt appear from birth till 1861,his Chelsea P records detailed in years spent in various countires,,,,,,,the missing years for him.

It could be. Did he live the entire period 1841-1911??

If he's your ancestor, you likely know his wife's name and at least one child's name. Have you found the marriage and birth record, and can you find them in the censuses?

Have you checked Chelsea Pensioner records at FMP?

You can search without paying, but need to pay to view the record (or ask someone here who subscribes to access it).

Not much help anyone can offer without some details. Assuming you haven't posted an inquiry on Trying to Find or another board, which would be the place to post an inquiry like this.

I've drawn a total blank in the censuses from 1841 - 1911 for one of my ancestors - except for just one reference to the correct name, and he's a Chelsea Pensioner!

Could his being in the Army be the reason he is not in any censuses?
