Tis so hard....fer instance

I have a little puppy
and his name is....Henry
I can't find anything that rhymes
And now I wish I'd called him.......dog

Stop wishing, and get one.

I have lost loads of weight by walking him....am fitter than I have been for years.....have met loads of people and best of all....I can nag him to bits and he doesn't answer back :-))

My Oh didn't want one either ( not that this would have stopped me getting one lol ).....but right from the start he talked to him ( while he thought I wasn't about)....he now comes to puppy training....he yaks away to him too......so much for him vehemently stating that 'No way was a dog coming into the house'

My Oh once stated that if a dog came into the house then he would leave.......Well ....foiled again.....so much for hoping that one would work lol

Hope you won't find your o.h. doing what my son, then 4, did when I was training our pup in 1986
I had the dog on one side and my son's hand in mine on t'other so couldn't use both hands to train Daisy, a lab cross. When we got to the kerbside I told Daisy to sit but she was a bit young and couldn't get the hang of it. I wondered why people passing were laughing till I realised my son was squatting at the kerb showing the dog what to do lol

Her husband does the same.

but I guess I could be worse
but at least it rhymes with Perse

If I had said

I did like your story about your son and the dog. Have you noticed that if you squat down to talk to little children they squat down as well. Of course now if I squat down I am liable to keel over.

Persey, squatting is not something I am good at these days, even if I manage to get down there, I have problems getting up again lol It's all in the hips and knees lol

Because I couldn't hold the lead with both hands to 'jerk' Daisy back when she pulled as a puppy, she never learned to walk to heel. I ended up with a dodgy shoulder from the many times we went out for walks with my son and the local kids - we would walk miles to the local University grounds where people walked dogs round the lake. The dog would haul me along in her excitement to get there and then after everyone had had a good run, dog and kids, we would trail back and I would nearly have to haul the dog along lol

Funniest time was when she had her ball in her mouth, and waded into the shallow edge of the lake to get a drink. Obviously she dropped the ball to drink and it floated away but for some reason she would never swim so stood there barking at it. She would always bark at anything she couldn't reach. My son asked another dog owner (larger dog than Daisy but can't recall what now, a Gt Dane or something similar) if her dog could swim. When she said yes, my lad asked if the dog would swim out and get Daisy's ball and it did, brought it right back to her!
We had some wonderful times with Daisy, she chased down a hill once after my lad, she was about six months old and my son nearly 5 and she knocked his legs from under him, they tumbled down the rest of the hill in a bundle lol Luckily no injuries but lots of laughter. If she got hot when out at one place we favoured, she would find the largest stickiest muddiest puddle and sprawl belly down in it with her back legs out, I used to have to clean her down with grass and paper tissues till she was fit to get back in the car to go home and then wash her down when we got back. We had her for twelve years and have been without her for just over 12 years, lost her to mammary cancer but still miss her and remember her wonderful nature.

You are right Sue, it was great for my son to have her in his life when he was so young, it taught him the responsibilities and drawbacks of having a dog to care for. We had three cats as well, all the animals got on well once the cats had put Daisy in her place, well she was a puppy and they were full grown cats and all about the same size to start with, as we got the dog when she was just 5 weeks old, having met her when she was a day old at a friend's house, the only yellow lab/cross out of the litter, all the others were black.

Aww Liz.....go down to the rescue place and get a dog......You sound as if it would do you a power of good.....You could always get one that bites if oh is a problem....lol

We were "given" a beautiful border collie when my youngest now 29 was only 8 or 9. We had her for 14 years and when she died my son who was about 23 at the time said he felt lonely because she had always seemed to be in his life. We now have a lovely little maltese but she's getting old and you just know that the time will come when she's no longer around.

Susan, o.h. would be hopeless with a dog, it would never know if it would be spoiled or scolded and there isn't much room here either. I am afraid I don't go for small dogs but prefer labradors or similar sized dogs.

My friend went back to Germany after her stay in Norfolk, she comes over every year for a few weeks mostly alone altho her hubby visits for a holiday lol, and this year she decided when she got home she wanted a dog.
She has bought a tiny pup called a Bolonka, she already has a house rabbit which I think is the same size as the pup or bigger, at the mo lol
Her pup is called Bobby, cost her a fortune and she has already spent a further fortune on him for accessories etc, she will make sure he is ok to come with her on her next visit. She drives over in a large bmw and takes loads of things back, like furniture or stuff from antique shops or charity shops. Bobby will have to have his travelling cage in a little area on the way home lol
