yes its possible, it does make sense. but the dawkins bit does puzzle me, unless there marriage was over and she remarried. its interesting that he (father) doesnt show up on any other census record, his son gets married in 1898 and his father is down as deceased on the marriage certificate

Please could you give full details of the birth certificate?

It may be that Sarah was previously married and perhaps married William using a different surname.
With full dates and location of the son's birth, we may be able to track the people in previous census.

the marriage was in southampton, on his birth cert, it gives his mother as sarah palmer formerly richards

you have'nt told us where ? maybe they didn't or could'nt marry ?

im trying to find a marriage between william thomas palmer and sarah richards, obviously the district will be the same, but is it possible that the volume no` and page could be different, or should they be the same also ?

he had a son called william thomas and on his birth cert, his dad`s name is down as william thomas, but on his sons marriage cert, its down as just thomas. but ive checked both and still cant come up with a marriage between the two of them, they were married in 1874 approx, but ive looked 5 years either way.kind regards darrell
