Maryilyn, LOLOL, he makes me laugh. So he does the shopping and cooking, well, so do alot of men, many of them having to. But that does not make him an expert, nor does it mean woman do not know how to do those things.
He said on a previous thread that he goes to New Zealnd for six months about this time of year. I wonder if 'er indoors goes' or does she stay her for a break from the pious s*d.

I've only been married 45yrs......wonder how many meals I've made for all my family & friends ?... gosh would take me another life time to count ....LOL

Hear,hear, Ann, well said. I was going to let Eddie's rather patronising remarks go, but seeing as the thread has come to the fore, I will answer. If Eddie had read the thread properly, he would have realised I was poking fun at my OH, having nothing to do on a wet Saturday morning, but try and get a packet of the said sprinkles he had seen advertised on television. We have very little in the way of ready made anything, so as he had nothing better to do, I left it too him. Me, I was up to my armpits in flour etc, making the food that we do eat, and pickling anything in site, ready for Christmas.
Eddie is rather prone to extolling his own virtues re his shopping and catering capeabilities, and expressing the same, on any foodie thread he gets on.
Why, on General there was a thread from someone wanting to know how to protect her newly planted bulb pots, when the subject of squirrels came up. Not only did Eddie refer to them at tree rats, which I know many do, but went on to tell us that the game-butcher in his town sells them, and they are popular fare in Yorkshire
I think I have been catering for a large family long enough to not need any advise from someone who thinks I need training, as per himself, in the matters of shopping for food, and the cooking of the same. In fact, we grow all our own veggies and fruit, salads etc, and I make just about everything edible, that goes in our stomachs.

PS This morning have made a Cobnut and Plum Crumble and a Cobnut and Pear Tray Bake. I will shortly be making Chicken in Mushroom Sauce with a Cheese Topping, Saute Potatoes, with Brocolli and Squash. Any takers.

Actually Eddie'sgranddad, even if you were joking, the person seeking the sprinkles in the first posts was male!!!!

And, even though we all cook fresh food most of the time, sometimes it is a nice change/break to buy something nice that is easy to serve up. And, not all our OH's cook, mine certainly doesn't. But he does do all the ironing, all the floors and puts the washing in and hangs it out, helps with the shopping, cleans the bathroom and cloakroom. So a break from cooking occasionally is my treat.

I hope you were joking Eddieisagrandad because otherwise that was a really unpleasant comment.

I sprinkle my roast potatoes with moroccan spice now and then to add some flavour. They go down very well.

Are you ladies for real? You scurry about looking for a packet containing 4 basic items in every cooks cupboard because you saw it on television? You bought gammon steaks with ready made mashed potato and a ready made rhubard crumble?
Jeeeez! This might explain why I do all my family's cooking and why I don't let my good lady anywhere near my kitchen.

I bought Gammon Steaks with Toffee Apple Butter & Herb Crust .
with Ultimate Potato Mash with cream ,butter .

Rhubarb Oat Crumble & bottle of California Ros'a .......

Hmmmm it was delicious ....... I did add my peas just to finish..

Just very slowly finishing my wine while watching Strickly ...LOL

Hi Marilyn, I told him that that was all that was in the sprinkles, but I had to let him hunt for himself LOLOL.
The meals had also gone in our M&S. What did you get for your £10.

I have just come been to M&S and yes sold out of sprinkles !!

Assistant said its only Semolina with salt & pepper & paprika , go and buy our Semolina and it will last you a lot longer than our packets of Sprinkles !!

Put your OH out of his misery and get your semolina out of the cupboard !!

Got my £10 meal & wine for tonight ........Strictly .. LOL

Chris, I already use goose fat, and have had goose several times at Christmas. We love it, but now I only have to cater for two, it is far to much for us. For anyone reading this, can I give a little tip here. Goose is a darker meat, and the bones of the bird weigh heavy. So, there is not as much meat on a 10lb Goose as there would be on a 10lb Turkey, for instance. But, it is luvrrrly, as Chris says.

He has been thwarted again. After the lorry was unpacked, there was no 'sprinkles' on the delivery. I am having to laugh to myself. I couldn't waste a morning doing that. So, now got rid of him taking a box of books to the charity shop, to redeem himself. LOLOL

Has anyone been able to get a packet of the 'sprinkles' for roast potatoes from M&S, that Caroline Quintin advertises on the telly. Three times the OH has been to our nearest food outlet, only to see they have already sold out. Went again this morning, and told to come back later, the lorry is just being unloaded, and it is only two packets per customer.
Well, I have only been roasting potatoes for him for 35 years, and he has only had cause to moan a couple of times. Hope they are worth it. And, you can tell he has nowt to do today, cause it's too wet underfoot. Men.
