You know the old saying? "Red Coat No D***s.**M**.pmsl.

"When I am an old woman, I shall wear purple
With a red hat which doesn't go, and doesn't suit me.
And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves
And satin sandals, and say we've no money for butter.


I shall sit down on the pavement when I'm tired
And gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells
And run my stick along the public railings
And make up for the sobriety of my youth.


I shall go out in my slippers in the rain
And pick the flowers in other peoples' gardens
And learn to spit.

You can wear terrible shirts and grow more fat
And eat three pounds of sausages at a go
Or only bread and pickles for a week
And hoard pens and pencils and beermats and things in boxes.

But now we must have clothes that keep us dry
And pay our rent and not swear in the street
And set a good example for the children.
We must have friends to dinner and read the papers.

But maybe I ought to practise a little now?

So people who know me are not too shocked and surprised
When suddenly I am old, and start to wear purple.

I love this poem,. and do like purple, and have a red hat!

Indoors is all Magnolia. Yes I know it is boring to some, but it does mean that I can put any colour to it in each room.
For myself, I like bright colours , but in moderation, as I am dark, (well once upon a time),and use colour to lift what I am wearing. I do wear black, but with other colours and prefer grey to navy, don't do yellows, or much green or blue, and definitely not brown or creams. I wear red in the winter but I do like shades of purple. Perhaps I was a dowager duchess in another life.

Edit to say, I do like fuchsia pinks and that ilk.

Me mum always said when put together red and green make you scream..... but my dad said all colours go with green...because leaves and stems are green and flowers are all colours. He just loved kids wearing colourful stripes.

House interiors - I would think neutral would be the safest and doesn't date.

A young couple moved next door to us and painted their rooms in very bright colours. Yellow, bright blue, red feature walls etc. I couldn't stay more than a few minutes as it made my nerves jangle.

When they sold the house the next family painted the whole house in cream. A little bland but the difference was amazing.

Don't like green or camel in decor or clothes !

Ahhh! I was talking about decor....now clothes....that is a different matter altogether.

Blue and turquoise are my favourite colours and without thinking I wear them a lot.

I don't like to wear green and never wear red.

Yes, I moved into a house with a grey living room and black carpet once, so depressing it had to be changed quickly.

Purple always makes me feel positive, red is warming for winter, but I was told it raises blood pressure if you have too much of it on walls. light green is calming we had that in our west facing living room :)

My Aunt used to do colour therapy (healing) which I found fascinating hence the reason I wear red but green is a good colour for me too

Clothes.. love black and white together, classy.
Red for power dressing.
Adore blues and turquoise, for socializing ,goes with my eyes:)

When my son was little I stopped dressing him in red because he acted like the devil and was little Mr Angry when dressed in that colour ....can't honestly say it made much difference really but it made me feel better....lol

Some colours are certainly less calming than others .

Rach - I read somewhere that red should be worn to give confidence and show the world you're not to be trifled with.

Our bedroom faces west and we get the afternoon sun which is very warm in summer. We painted the room blue and it certainly makes it look cooler.

Sure do I wear lots of red when I go to a meeting because it shows power and it works it helps me to be productive

......................................................................................affect your moods. I was watching a show on the telly about this and I found it very interesting.
