I read this in the Daily Mail today,Page 56 bottom LHC.Is this how wars start? This is reputedly a transcript of a radio conversation between a US navy ship and the Canadians off the coast of Newfoundland in October 1995. Canadians,Please divert your course 15 degrees to th south to avoid a collision.Americans,We recomend you divert your course 15 degrees to the North to avoid a collision. Canadians, " Negative" you will have to divert your course.Americans,This is the Aircraft Carrier USS Abraham Lincoln,we are the second largest carrier in the US Fleet,Three destroyers,Three cruisers and numorous support vessels accompany us.I say again change your course 15 degrees north or countermeasures will be taken to ensure the safety of this ship.Canadians, We are a Lighthouse, You decide.

Heh. I've been retelling that one -- here included -- for ages. ;)

Snopes says it ain't so, and the US Navy says it ain't so, but I figure they're just trying to save face!

It's just such a classic Canadian joke. We're just the little lighthouse, boys, but we gotcha.
