Hi
My son is 13 and next year hopes to go to Malawi for 3 weeks on a school link project to help set up classrooms in a school there-last year they rebuilt and kitted out two rooms and hope to achieve something similar-a teacher my son has used to live there so hopefully it will all go smoothly! (although very scary prospect actually!)- the thing is we need to raise the money for him to go and help-so any suggestions very welcome-he needs about £1500-but at least he will be doing good-not just a 'jolly'.ideas please.......

Buy once of those cheap tin money boxes which you have to open with a tin opener. They cost from around £1.99. Drop bits of change in there every time you can spare some.

Do a boot sale

Not for just him, but could the organising teacher arrange for those going to pack bags at a large supermarket for a donation from the customers? You see all sorts of groups in the lead up to Christmas.

added - do you have free weekly newspapers in your area? Perhaps could he get a job delivering them after school over a couple of evenings every week, or at the weekend.

What about making things - home-made Christmas cards, gift tags etc? Especially with it coming up to Christmas, it might be worth looking for craft-type fairs in local village halls. The ones round here only tend to cost £10 or so per table so if he's any good at making festive things (or knows anyone who is) it might be worth trying.

Cake sale's a good idea too - it was always quite a reliable one when I was at school.
