Ann most of them don't work for me either and I have windows 7 The only alt one which does is The Alt/GR key with 4 which gives the € sign

You others -- Windows 7 is the devil's work and I know nought about it. I googled and all I found is something I think you have to buy

Thanks for the link Janey, that's very useful.
I always had to go into character map and then I pasted the most used in a word doc to cut and paste when needed.

Linda in HC yes the AltGR +4 gives me the euro sign.

If you want to do fancy letters eg: *~~¤ Þeŗ§eþhðŋě ¤~~*

Go to Microsoft word and on the top tool bar where it says File, Edit, View, Insert etc Go to insert and click on symbol, make up what you want and then copy/paste on here. GR won't accept them all but will do quite a few.
