Hi Lesley

Does his marriage cert list his father's name? Try posting details on the trying to find or records pages and it is possible someone will find him. He could have been born pre his parent's marriage and his birth listed under his mother's maiden name or possibly mispelt

Good Luck Kay

Might he have been born in Ireland or Scotland? Although someone needs to confirn, I think GR only hold the index for England and Wales.

Try freebmd.org.uk for a different version of UK bmd, Scotlandspeople for Scotland - not sure about Ireland, north or south.

Alternatively, tell us the details from the MC - where, declared age, father's name and occupation and we may be able to find a reference for his birth

Post a few details of names and places and people will have a go at helping to track him.
Could he have been born in Scotland?

Hi
I'm new to all this and am baffled that I can find a death index for my grandfather ( died 1957) and a marriage index too for 1914 but despite the fact that he was born in 1882 and I have both first names and a surname there is no mention of him in any of the relevant census links. Its like he appeared on the planet in 1914 when he got married. I don't have any recollection of any history from abroad for that side of the family. Anybody had a similar problem?
