Thanks Florence for searching....you can see my dilemma.......

Had considered she may have remarried but was in her 60`s ...not impossible, Charles was on a Pension from the Railways...would`nt that have then gone to her as a Widow? ..if so i doubt she would have remarried as she would then have lost the Pension.

Yes the marriage is registered as Francis on the GRO...I got the cert, through Lancs BMD and they have it correct as Furniss...theres nothing i can do about the GRO entry being wrong.

Thanks for looking

Eddie...Yes thanks for that, i have looked countrywide not just focusing on Lancashire and south London, but still no luck.

hi nicky, sorry i didnt get back to you yesterday. i had quite a search around and can see why you are so frustrated at not finding her. one thing i found on free bmd was under her maiden name, it gives her marriage to charles as francis not furniss/furness!! i think it is probably mis read.

just a thought but would she of remarried someone else, if only for a short while. my own gr grandma did just that and nobody knew about it. she was only married for 4 years until she died. some kind person found that info for me on here.

so hopefully she will be found, just have to be patient. will keep on looking and get back to you
happy searching

I have a number of deaths in my family that were registered many miles from where the person lived. For example a death in Croydon, Surrey, registered in Devon, another in Horsham, Sussex registered in Sutton, Surrey. There are others. This has happened simple because the office was closed and the person going to register the death had to be elsewhere.

Thanks for those Shirley ..will look in to them further when i have time later.

The Furniss/Furness name seems to be very popular in the Derby area...Charles was born there, i will take a look at 1911 and see if theres a Charlotte Furniss of that age in derby then and then see if I can eliminate her.
As for Emma ...her birth reg just says Emma but she may have been Emma louise...its a pity basic birth info dos`nt give their marital status..I have no idea of her birth date as she was grandmothers sister I don`t have the cert.....just try and always get them for the direct line.

thanks Shirley, certainly food for thought

Thanks Florence..

Her name was Margaret Ann Furniss{ could be Furness} nee Leslie born 22nd June 1849 in Little Bolton Lancashire.

She married Charles Furniss in 1875 when they already had 5 children and they lived in the Chorlton area of Manchester.
She appears as Margaret A or Ann on every census except 1911 when she is just down as Margaret Furniss/Furness
Husband Charles died December 1911, though there is no mention of Margaret on the death cert. Death was registered by his son in Law..

He was married to Dora my grand mother and they were all living together at Claremont Road Moss Side on the 1911 census.
.

In 1922 my grandfather was Nateuralised { He was greek} and him Dora and their 5 children were still living in Manchester.

My grandfather died in 1926 in Brockley South East London where the family now lived...though not sure when they moved there.

Dora had living with her in London 2 of her elder sisters Margaret and jane, they both stayed with her until their deaths in the 1950`s, so feel if her mother had been alive then surely she would have gone to London with the family as well, but can find no death for her in that area either. I have never succesfully traced any of their other 3 children John william, Charlotte and Emma either after 1911 so theres a chance Margaret could have been with one of them.

so its a needle in a haystack...she may have died in the Manchester area, she may have died in South London, she may have died somewhere completly different...all I do know is that she was alive at the time of the 1911 census.

I found this thread very interesting.

My Dad died about 4 years back. Anyone searching for him in the future would probably look at his home town, Barnet, London, where he lived for many years, but they won't find him: he had gone away for a few days, was taken ill and died in hospital...... in Worthing, Sussex. No-one in our family has ever come from there so no-one would be looking for him in that district.

I put a really big comment about it on my family tree!

Sue, Christopher Frank Who??

Sue

Sue Report 13 Oct 2010 14:07

Shirley,
Its a very odd situation. I cant ever remember his name being mentioned., but another bro.,who was killed in WW1 had alot of mentions from my Gran., There is only one living cousin, and she had never heard of him either, but he was present in 1901 and 1911 census forms.!!
Interestingly, a couple of nephews have been called Christopher, and another Frank, both his christian names.!! So I dont think he was a 'black sheep'.
One of these days ...............! Sue

Maybe your dads brother went abroad, lots did in the early part of 1900,s Or maybe he went to Ireland or Scotland which would be different records

Susan
Religion doest affect the records. All deaths have to be registered in order for a funeral to take place. Sometimes when there is an inquest the actual registration doesnt take place until the coroner authorises it and the informant will show as the Coroner

I also have had trouble trying to find death date of my Dads b.rother. He was present in 1911 census and the trail ends there. It has never come up anywhere at all.
I have heard that Non Conformist records, are not always on lists, due to being forgotton or damaged.

Was there maybe an inquest so his death registration wasnt til after the inquest.
A document would have been issued so the funeral could take place pre the Inquest.
