Hi I wonder if I could pick someones brains on hot matches?
I've just been informed of a hot match with another gr member. I tried to contact this member over a year ago but got no reply. Does gr still use info from people who are no longer members? I would like to try and contact this member but don't know if I'm wasting my time. Any ideas on how I can find out if this person is still an active member? Thanks

If their tree has been left on genes then the computer will find Hot matches for it . Some people dont renew their subs but their tree still stays on the system.
If their email address is still the same you can still contact them and they can reply.
People dont renew for all sorts of reasons, they may have passed away and no one can access genes to delete their account/tree

Thanks Jean and Shirley, I expect you're right and their tree has been left on. Normally people are very good at replying and sharing their information so I think this member may have let their subs lapse. I've found a lot of distant relatives through the hot matches so mustn't be too dissappionted when I hit a brick wall. Once again thanks for the explanation.
